Where to Start?

There are a lot of opportunities out there to increase your income or to start making an income on line. Sometimes, it seems the problem is not to find a way, a thing to do.

In fact, It’s the opposite. There are so many ways, so many opportunities, it’s hard to know where to start. How to choose? It takes understanding and data in order to decide. Until you do it, you don’t get enough data to make the decision.

Can I make a success of this? Or would that be a better fit ? Well, this is something I am interested in, but now I found out some more about it, I can see it won’t really work with everything else I got going on, but I need to keep going with them so ….. well, what about this? Oh no, that’s just a load of hype. Ok well this looks much better. I’ll look into this.

And before you know it a year or two or even more has gone by. No progress, nothing changed. A lot of ideas, no action. A lot of thinking, a lot of effort, a lot of expense checking things out, a lot of time spent checking things out… a lot of checking out.

One good thing that came of all the checking out is seeing who has stayed the course. Who has made a success, who continues to deliver, who gives value for money, whose methods work, who has won respect, earned a good reputation, who will be here tomorrow.
Names that come up again and again are Jim Cockrum, Skip McGrath, John Thornhill, Stuart Turnbull, Mark Ling.

Jim Cockrum is an experienced Ebay seller who went on to sell on Amazon. He has several training porgrams including the Silent Sales Machine and Proven Amazon Course.

Skip McGrath is another one of the original Ebay sellers. He has been selling on this platform for many years, and also now sells on Amazon, writes a regular newsletter, sells his training program and contributes to others success with advice, tips and wholesale sources for physical products.

John Thornhill joined the ranks of the Ebay legends. He sells and promotes internet marketing programs. His big ticket program is Partnership to Success. He is hard working, sincere, and helpful. The information he includes sets you up to build your own website, products and sales for information products.

Stuart Turnbull has a successful prints and public domain products business, which he shares with others. His is a fun method for a person looking for an additional bit of extra money in a creative way.

You need to work out what you want to do, name it and want it and take action to get it

Making Progress

When I first started out, it ticked all the boxes. And I jumped in feet first. Great, I thought. I’ve started. This is easy. And so began an interest in Internet Marketing, or Information Publishing as some people describe it.

That feeling lasted for about a week.

Then, suddenly, I was swamped. There were SOOooo many things to learn, things to do to get up and running before I even got to square zero, new words, no definitions, new actions on the computer, jumping off from what felt like the top board, when I should be at the shallow end of the pool, sites I’d never heard of and now needed to be able to navigate around. Yes life on the control panel side is different from the happy browser clicking her way around the internet…. With only a few hours a couple of evenings a week, the course zoomed out ahead of me. And me, I was still at the starting post working out which way to face, staring at glitches and stopped by the hitches, confused by the stitches it took to keep it together.

Suddenly a year went by. I didn’t quite make it to the end of the course. But I didn’t give up on it, dipped in and out of it, slipped around and about in it, picked up bits of it….always came back to it…maybe one day…

But today was a good day. I got back to my blog, poshed up a post, published it promptly. Did some work on the course. Wow, that wasn’t so tough.

Found some later lessons, took a sneak peak, didn’t collapse in a heap.

Gosh, now that makes more sense. I can see where I am going and how to get there. And now I can see how I can use it and make it my own.

It’s exciting and looks like good fun. I can’t wait to wake up tomorrow and do some more.

Simple Traffic Solutions

One of the key things to creating your success marketing on line comes from having a list of names and then making them an offer. So that makes ways to collect names and build up your lists a key element to master. Anything that will help to do this and then do it better will help you to start your business and then build on it.

Getting traffic into to your websites, getting people to give you their contact details, being able to mail out offers out to your list of name and then swiftly delivering to them once they have signed up and purchased from you, are all vital steps. So where do you start from and how do you build on it?

John Thornhill has years of successful experience in doing just that and he shows you how in Simple Traffic Solutions.  John released Simple Traffic Solutions on November 1st 2012. He considers it his best traffic generation product to date and it has proven to be very popular.

A New Start

I started John Thornhill’s Partnership to Success Program a few months ago. The program is meaty and takes you through a lot of ground from setting up on line towards creating and marketing your own product, as well as other activities.

I decided I’d go back to the beginning and review what we’d covered so far. It’s always a good idea when learning something new to make sure you get plenty of hands-on experience of whatever it is you are dealing with, especially when it’s something practical. So, I am going to set up a second website along side the one I am doing with John’s program. That will give me a good opportunity to review what we covered so far, while also making use of the time to get another project moving.

The first lesson with John covers buying a domain name and setting up a blog. If you have never done this before, they are quite simple steps to take once someone has shown you what to do. That, of course, opens the door to a whole new world. For the old hand, these steps are quick and simple to do. So first, I am going to head over to D9 Hosting to see if the website name I want is available.

Now that I have some experience, I am looking forward to rounding it out with some additional activity and examples while exploring some new, interesting areas.

Olympic Madness is Upon Us

After a glorious spectacle of British life through the centuries, we are now full swing into the Olympics.

A high note of the Opening Ceremony was the introduction of the latest Bond girl when the Queen, accompanied to the Games by James Bond, parachuted in to the stadium to delighted applause. A humorous touch that caught the eye of the world as billions watched the Opening Ceremony. How she managed to keep a dead pan straight face as she made her entrance was a gold medal performance all of its own.

An inspiring message to all comes out of the Games, a message of endurance, focus, persistence, dedication, fair play and good sportmanship. Playing the game is important, not just the winning. When there is so much noise and misery pushed in our faces day after day by the press, forwarding the message of those who would not see people well and happy, it is wonderful to see so many individuals put forward their best selves, respect and admire their competitors and their achievements, and celebrate victory as they overcome the obstacles to their success.

We couldn’t compete with Beijing with its dramatic Opening Ceremony to the last Olympic Games, so we didn’t. We had our own uniquely British presentation and we certainly did ourselves proud on the world stage with a real showcase presentation about British life, our country, our outstanding contributions to the world and the eccentric British take on life. For a small country, we surely pack a big punch of influence. It makes me be proud to be British

Good to see Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the World Wide Web was included, without whom we would not have this opportunity as Internet Marketers to create our own businesses and unique way of life.

Nice to think of the World Wide Web as “Made in Britain!”

D9 Hosting

There are a lot of different hosting sites, offering different degrees of service. Ease of use and assistance to the new website owner venturing out like an old time pioneer into the wild west of the internet may not be the top priority of a large hosting company. So, I was pleased to be introduced to D9 Hosting.

Started by Dan Thompson and Paula Brett in 2007, D9 Hosting offers a wide range of services to people all over the globe. They have a well-thought-out range of packages and rates to cater to different types of users. In particular, D9 has a special interest in helping new people to get started smoothly online and pass through all the complexities the old hand can deal with comfortably. Using their own personal experience to draw on, they give additional suuport to the needs of beginners with on-line videos and other services which are easily accessed.

Personally I have used their service and found D9 to be very helpful. For example, Paula responded instantly to a chat request and the issue I had was fixed within minutes. I found they have many satisfied users with good word of mouth.

So, I can definitely recommend D9 Hosting with confidence.

Do Heart Surgery and Internet Marketing Go Together? Not your usual combination, I would have thought. Until tonight.

Tonight I was browsing some blogs and came across the website of Dr Mani, heart surgeon. It was very moving. He is a doctor in India.  He is also an infopreneur and an internet marketer. He is a fully trained heart surgeon with a big heart.

He has a second purpose which is to help underprivileged children in India who need heart surgery. To accomplish this, he needs to fund the operations. Each operation costs over £2000. He has a target to do 100 operations. This requires him to raise a huge sum of money. So far he has raised enough to do be able to do 47 heart operations.

To raise the money he became an internet marketer and created a second profession for himself,  whereby he makes money by helping people become successful on-line. The money he raises from this activity he then uses to fund the operations on the children. What a man! And what energy. To master two careers and use one to fund the other is more than most people would ever do. Yet he enjoys both and finds great success and pleasure from helping people in both lines of endeavour.

What is wonderful to see is that through his blog and internet activities, and his obvious desire to help people as an internet marketer to success on-line, Dr Mani has become known to a far wider audience than if he had confined himself to his profession as a surgeon.   His desire to give help to others prompts many people to help him in return. Thus he is able to bring about many good things. It is an inspiration to see how much one man can do and to see how competent we can aspire to be.

Working through John Thornhill’s training program is really empowering. He has obviously put a lot of thought into it, combined with his own experience of learning how to function as an internet marketer himself. So when you go through the program, it is not like some theoretical knowledge that someone copied from someone else. You know that John has been there, done that, found what worked and got results, run into that situation and made that mistake, so he knows what to advise you. It is good to hear him saying things like:  Do this…. that’s all we are going to get into right now, because it will get too complicated. We’re going to come back to it later and I will explain it then in more detail. That’s completely fine with me. I’m quite happy to go on a less-is-more kind of basis. Because I’ve been on the alternative basis. All that happened was a big dead end. I’m talking about programs where it was too much before I even got started. I am sure you can relate to that too. Times when you’ve tried to do a course, listened to webinars or even bought the materials –where the person was telling you how to do something. They might even have thought what they were doing was simple — after all it was for them —  but it was already so over your head and delivered so fast, that you just didn’t get off the starting block and just stared blankly at the screen, head reeling.

For that reason, I think the thing I like the best is the really short videos. It makes it really easy to start and stop what you are doing. It makes it worthwhile even if I only have 20-30 mins available  to work on the program, to turn my laptop on, do a bit of work on the program to try to do the next step. Because I can quickly find the next step I need to take and just do it. If something doesn’t quite work out then it is not so-far-so-fast,  my head is spinning in confusion, and it all became a big plate of spaghetti that I just fell unconscious into. And when it doesn’t quite work out, and I have to stop for a bit and figure it out, then I feel really proud of myself for being able to figure it out, and get the result I was after. There is something really reassuring about a short video which you can play over and over again as needed, watching the screen shots in 30 second blasts as you go along step by step with each key stroke that John makes.

The other thing that I like about the program is that John has obviously worked with different people over the years. He knows who he has found to be reliable, consistent and deliver the product. Obviously, he is going to recommend those people. Some of them are people who have worked in his business, some even were past students. So for someone who doesn’t already have certain things in place, you can save a lot of time, hardship and disappointments by going to the same people. They know how John’s programs work,  which of course is an advantage. For you, though, there is the advantage of knowing that you will get a good service without having to waste more time finding out who to go to, who’s going to give you a good price, who’s actually able deliver you the product or service you need. It’s a two way street. I like that I can have confidence and trust the people he recommends. In turn,  I am happy to recommend them to others.

Intention and Focus

The first lesson I’ve learned is the importance of intention and focus.

What started out with high purpose and huge enthusiasm quickly morphed into a back page message somewhere in the depths of my inbox. Before I knew it, Week 6 of John’s training program had just popped into my inbox. Week 6! I was barely started into Week 1. Where did that come from? And I thought I was moving, making progress, feeling good… Well, not exactly. No, not really. Not at all, in fact. Face the fact.

The first real lesson. It’s not one on the checklist John sends out every week with his lessons to his students on his Partnership to Success program. But this is fundamental stuff, make it or break it on anything, not just internet marketing, really the first barrier to progress and success..

I took a deep breath. Then I had to take a real good look. What happened? All that busyness I’d been busy on, all those little and big things that came up, and “important” things I’d needed to do. You know. Feed the cat, walk the dog, call my friend, go to the dentist, child’s school-do, the bank, the shops, go to work, pay the bills…All added up to time lost that could never be spent again. You could live a whole life like that.

Well it was time to sort out what my intention was and put some focus on that. Ignore everything else. Sweep it to one side for now.

One step in 6 weeks became 6 steps in one week. What a difference.

A real sense of achievement followed as I actually got things done, and pride too. Two lessons learned, I’d say.
